In other professions (e.g. accounting, architecture, law, medical) the state helps ensure individuals are competent to perform the profession they intend to practice -- through professional licensing. The state also licenses engineers. I am a licensed Professional Engineer. Just as you would not get medical advice from a physician who is not board licensed, or an accountant who is not a C.P.A. we recommend you don't take engineering advice from an individual who merely has the title engineer on their business card. Ensure they have the training, license and commitment to back it up.
